WordPress 2.6 & Spam Karma 2

It’s been a while since I wrote anything here, but here are two important announcements for anyone running the .org version of Wordpress.

WP Logo and Spam Karma 2 Button

Firstly, WordPress 2.6 is now out.  There are, as usual, lots of new things in this release and they ae all listed here.  One thing I noticed is that I have had to add to my .htaccess file because all my previous URLs stopped working.  For example, the URL to this post is http://www.lostaddress.org/2008/07/17/wordpress-26-spam-karma-2/ and under the previous release of WP, the URL would have been http://www.lostaddress.org/index.php/2008/07/17/wordpress-26-spam-karma-2/ - spot the difference?  If you were using a similar method, make sure you check your links!  So download it, install it and check out the changes (and fix things where necessary).

Subscribe By Email With Subscribe2

Yet another small change to the site. When will the madness end? RT Cunningham and Corey Thompson have both mentioned recently that they have enabled subscriptions by email. This is because people’s RSS feed readers tend to get very clogged over time and because not everyone has one. So I installed the Subscribe2 plugin tonight.

If you look to the top of the page, you’ll see a new entry on the menu bar: Subscribe. Click the link and fill in your email address and you too can receive posts by mail.

WordPress 2.5.1

For all those of us running WordPress.org, just a heads up to say that a point released is available. WordPress Logo

Previous big number release was 2.5 and this is 2.5.1.

The Developer’s Blog has full details of the reasons for this upgrade, but in short:

Comment King - Again

for week commencing 12 AprilWell, to all those naysayers, I say blerrt. Yet again I am the Comment King for Untwisted Vortex.

Thanks RT, wonder if I can make it three times?? :)

Comment King

Comment King Award w/e 20080405Oh yes, I am indeed the Comment King. For week ending 5th April, anyway. R T Cunningham hosts a semi-regular contest for the Comment King or Queen on his blog. To take part is easy, all you have to do is to leave a comment against his posts on the specially crafted “comment area”. And that’s it really. The catch is that you have to leave more comments than any other commenter.

Oh, and don’t think you can just spam his site with a load of crap to get this highly prestigious and sought after award. Like most bloggers, most sensible bloggers anyway, RT keeps an eye out for spammers and other malcontents. So be sure to leave only useful and insightful posts. Only the finest artisan created posts get the chance to gain the award (award shown is actual size).

Aside from the award I assume there’s some sort of castle, kingdom and jewellery still to come. I can wait……
